''Avlon has utter contempt for freedom-loving Americans – people who believe in the Constitution, who espouse what he labels "conservatism," who have fixed moral standards of right and wrong, who uphold the rule of law and the will of the people, who believe in self-government rather than top-down rule by an elite.'' A few months ago, a columnist for the Daily Beast interviewed me for a book he was writing.
He didn't want to divulge the subject matter of the book, but that was easy enough to find out on my own. He was already touting it on his website. It was to be called "Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe Is Hijacking America."
Because most people who actually talk to me and get to know me don't think I'm a "wingnut" or a "lunatic," I decided I would talk to John Avlon, whose claim to fame seems to be that he once wrote speeches for Rudy Giuliani.
Well, the book is out. Avlon didn't even have the courtesy to send me a copy. I picked it up at an airport last weekend. It's the first title produced by Beast Books, a new publishing endeavor by the website. (As an aside, WND has been publishing books since 2003 – the first Internet content company to do so.)
Is the book all I imagine it would be? That and then some.
Who are the other "wingnuts" profiled by Avlon?
It's an interesting group – including some of the major media and political figures in the United States: Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann and me.
What do these folks have in common?
I'll let you figure that out.
There is, however, just one other personality with a significant profile in the book. His name is Keith Olbermann.
I'll also leave it to you to figure out which one of the above names doesn't belong with the others. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=127405
