Left Turn: The Senate's Miserable Health Bill

Left Turn: The Senate's Miserable Health Bill

''President Bush brought us preemptive war. President Obama's specialty seems to be preemptive compromise. He gave the farm away to Pharma, and then had to keep on giving when Lieberman, Nelson, and the other industry-backed Senators came calling.''

With Monday morning's 1 a.m. 60-40 vote, the Senate's health care bill took another step towards passage, prompting a fresh round of public celebrations. "I think it's very exciting," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told HuffPost. "It's a big day."
Even many of those with serious reservations about the bill were slipping on their party hats. "Make no mistake about it,"
said SEIU president Andy Stern, "for working Americans, this vote signals progress."
And Paul Krugman, while calling the legislation "a seriously flawed bill we'll spend years if not decades fixing,"
applauded it as "an awesome achievement."
This typifies the current thinking of the "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" crowd. Unfortunately, there are three faulty premises at work in this line of reasoning. First, that those who oppose the bill do so because it's not perfect (as opposed to because it's a hot health care mess). Second, that the bill is, well, good (as opposed to a total victory for Pharma and the insurance industry -- witness the
spectacular spike in health care stocks following Monday's vote).
Third is the premise that this is as good a bill as we can get right now, and we can always go back and improve it later.
It doesn't work that way. We heard the same kinds of sentiments about No Child Left Behind when it passed in 2001. Backers on both sides of the aisle had problems with it, but both sides celebrated it as a major step forward -- and promised to make it better in the future.
"The agreement we reached reflects the best thinking of both sides,"
said Sen. Joe Lieberman.
"This was a reform bill. We can't have reform without resources, and that will be the next step,"
said Sen. Tom Daschle.
"This is a good bill... And there are going to be many additional steps that will be necessary along the way, but all of us are committed to following in those steps,"
said Sen. Ted Kennedy, the primary Democratic co-sponsor of the bill. http://www.alternet.org/politics/144800/if_we_don%27t_fix_the_senate%27s_miserable_health_bill%2C_the_repercussions_could_last_for_decades?page=entire

Is it anti-semetic to criticize Israel?

Is it anti-semetic to criticize Israel?

''Israel's name-calling of critics during the recent Jerusalem conference is dangerous and irresponsible. It ignores the possibility that many (including Jews) use strong words out of love for Israel and the Jewish people. They may employ “tough love” language to bring Israel to what they believe is reality.''

Five hundred international lawmakers, diplomats and academics met in Jerusalem Dec. 16-17 to consider the threat of “mushrooming” criticism of Israel. “The Global Forum for Combating Global Anti-Semitism” was hosted by the government of Israel. Its premise is that criticism of Israel, her government, and military policies toward Palestinians is anti-Semitic if it is “strong” or uses Nazi/apartheid imagery.
This criterion for anti-Semitism is shared by the Anti-Defamation League and its Office of Global Anti-Semitism in the US State Department. In fact, ADL head Abe Foxman and the State Department’s Hannah Rosenthal (Special Envoy to Combat Anti-Semitism) were honored guests at the conference.
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman quoted Foxman and said much of the world has “crossed the line” from legitimate criticism to an epidemic of anti-Semitism. Diaspora Foreign Minister Yuli Edelstein also spoke for Israel. He warned that global anti-Semitism “has been able to gain endorsement from academics, media outlets, and even political parties.” Edelstein went so far as to say:
to be ‘anti-Israel’ is to be anti-Semitic. To boycott Israel, Israeli professors and Israeli businesses, these are not political acts, these are acts of hate, acts of anti-Semitism!...Look at the reality Israelis face when traveling to international athletic, business and academic events. More and more, when they arrive in Sweden, Turkey, England, and even the United States, they must lecture and perform before hostile or even violent crowds, requiring police protection. We must not hesitate to expose this hatred for what it is. It is a strong and vile form of xenophobia [fear of foreigners]. It expresses itself through violence, mockery and exclusion. It is directed toward the outside, toward that which is different, in appearance, speech or prayer." "It is discrimination against Jews, because they are Jews. In short, it is anti-Semitism." (Jerusalem Post, Dec. 16, 2009, “Verbatim: Anti-Semites Have Warped Tiny Israel Into Goliath”)

Calling for lower wages for American workers

Calling for lower wages for American workers

''Any politician who refuses to work to secure our borders and create an immigration system that has integrity is either corrupt or too dumb to keep his (her) job. Any politician, irrespective of party affiliation who favors Comprehensive Immigration Reform should be shown the door at the next election!''

When you read this news article I want you pay special attention to read the passages I put in quotes above, but I would urge you to read the entire news report.
Here is a
link to Greenspan's testimony (don't take my word for what he said- read it yourself!)Please pay special attention to the fact that the "leaders" at the United States Department of Labor indicated that they did not know if they had the authority to investigate fraud in the applications that they processed!
This is about as sensible as a traffic cop on duty saying he didn't know if he could issue summonses to drivers who run red lights!
What is the process of adjudicating applications for anything if the people adjudicating the applications don't think they can look for fraud?
Why bother adjudicating the applications at all? Why not just have applicants self-file and be done with it?!
It is interesting that prior to the Second World War, the United States Department of Labor was in charge of administering the immigration laws of the United States because back then, when apparently commonsense prevailed, the concern was that foreign workers might undercut American and lawful immigrant workers.
(How far we have gone in precisely the opposite direction since then!)
Finally I am compelled to make a point I have made on so many previous occasions- With all of this rampant fraud that permeates the entire immigration system- how in blazes would our inept government even begin to make certain that any sort of "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" program would have any integrity whatsoever?
This is, of course, a rhetorical question. It is the equivalent of asking if a frail and elderly hospital patient clinging to life on a respirator would be able to run the New York City Marathon!... If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same.

What kind of talk - talk?

What kind of talk - talk?

''...when Shimon Peres said “We live in a world where markets are more important than countries,” he was suggesting that national borders or wars fought over territory are things of the past. Forgotten is the high degree of commercial (to say nothing of cultural) intercourse between France and Germany before the Franco-Prussian War.''

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is anxious to resume negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, a militaristic regime. His favorite mantra for negotiating with the PA is “reciprocity.” Hence it behooves him as well as us to understand the difference between martial and democratic diplomacy, which I discuss at length in my book Jewish Statesmanship (2000). Here is a first installment.
Negotiation between democracies and dictatorships is rendered exceedingly difficult by the basic differences in the political character of the two types of regimes. Diplomacy is not ideologically neutral. How and why states negotiate—their methods and objectives—depend mainly on their principles of government. The diplomacy of a government based on consent—on freedom of discussion, pluralism and compromise—will differ profoundly from the diplomacy of a government based on coercion, propaganda and conformity.
The experienced diplomat Sir Harold Nicholson makes a fundamental distinction between martial and democratic diplomacy. Whereas martial diplomacy regards negotiation between adversary states as a form of warfare pursued by other means, democratic diplomacy—largely the product of commercial societies—regards negotiation between adversaries as a means of conciliation requiring mutual concessions leading to lasting agreement and peace.
The methods of martial diplomacy resemble a series of military campaigns the ultimate goal of which is victory over the enemy if not his complete destruction. The purpose of negotiation is to outflank your enemy, to weaken him by all manner of attacks. If the opponent is a democracy, attempts will be made to manipulate public opinion through the media, the object being to undermine popular support for the government’s negotiating position. Efforts will also be made to divide the government itself by subtle appeals to political factions and opposition leaders. And of course there will be attempts to drive a wedge between the government and its allies. The principle is divide and conquer.

'Let's Roll' Part 2

'Let's Roll' Part 2

''This time the last line of defense worked. Next time, the paradise-seeking jihadist might get lucky and find himself sitting next to, say, Charlie Sheen, too immersed in a lengthy treatise on how 9/11 was an inside job to notice the smoldering socks in the next seat; or to the same kind of nothing-to-see-here crowd who thought Major Hasan's e-mails were "consistent with his research interests".''

On September 11th 2001, the government's (1970s) security procedures all failed, and the only good news of the day came from self-reliant citizens (on Flight 93) using their own wits and a willingness to act.
On December 25th 2009, the government's (post-9/11) security procedures all failed, and the only good news came once again from
alert individuals:
"Suddenly, we hear a bang. It sounded like a firecracker went off," said Jasper Schuringa, a film director who was traveling to the US to visit friends.
"When [it] went off, everybody panicked ... Then someone screamed, ‘Fire! Fire!’"
Schuringa, sitting in seat 20J, in the right-most section of the
Airbus 330, looked to his left. "I saw smoke rising from a seat ... I didn’t hesitate. I just jumped," he said.
Schuringa dove over four passengers to reach Abdul Mutallab’s seat. The suspect had a blanket on his lap. "It was smoking and there were flames coming from beneath his legs."
"I searched on his body parts and he had his pants open. He had something strapped to his legs."
The unassuming hero ripped the flaming, molten object — which resembled a small, white shampoo bottle — off Abdul Mutallab’s left leg, near his crotch. He said he put out the fire with his bare hands.
Schuringa yelled for water, and members of the flight crew soon appeared with fire extinguishers. Then, he said, he hauled the suspect out of the seat.
If the facts remain broadly as outlined, this incident has serious implications for airline travel: A man is on the no-fly list but is allowed to board the plane. Everyone flying on an inbound long-haul flight to the United States is forced to hand over excessively large amounts of liquids and gels and put the small amounts permitted into separate plastic bags, yet the no-fly guy's material for bomb-making sails through undetected.

Remembering the 2004 Tsunami

Remembering the 2004 Tsunami

''It we tough meeting the people…the aunts, uncles, cousins, mothers and fathers…who rushed to Thailand spending every day looking through hospitals and body bags hoping some way they'd find their missing loved one. Yet though it all we saw perseverance and strength as people from different cultures and parts of the world held hands and did the work that many could never dream of and others might recoil in horror at the thought. Here are parts of a few of my blogs from that time.''

I'll never forget that morning and while so much time has passed, it seems like just a few weeks ago. We started our morning very early here on the west coast the day after Christmas five years ago. My producer Jeff Nguyen and I got the call as the sun was just beginning to rise over California and within two hours we were packed and on a plane headed for destruction we could have never imagined, or prepared to see.
For the next three and a half weeks we watched as people from around the globe came to do anything and everything to help the people of Southeast Asia. Despite criticism from other nations, American Marines stationed in Thailand were me of the first "boots on the ground" helping those in need. Americans ended up being the most generous with time, money and hands on work that continues to this day, yet you don't hear other governments saying any of that….at the time some people were quick to criticize and promise, but slow to act.
The pictures in this slide show are just a few of hundreds. Many more still stick in my mind. I could have never imagined the destruction in Patong Beach for example. Homes and businesses four blocks in from the ocean were leveled, yet areas on bluffs overlooking the million dollar view…left untouched by the incredible force of mother nature. We saw dead bodies and a human head on Phi Phi island. People there lined the dock, both alive and dead.
Makeshift morgues could be found across the countryside, trailers full of dry ice brought to try and preserve the bodies of those lost as best as possible. Meantime everywhere we looked there were stacks of coffins being built and plywood walls erected with either pictures of dead bodies waiting for identification, or pictures of families with arrows pointed to those unaccounted for.
It we tough meeting the people…the aunts, uncles, cousins, mothers and fathers…who rushed to Thailand spending every day looking through hospitals and body bags hoping some way they'd find their missing loved one. Yet though it all we saw perseverance and strength as people from different cultures and parts of the world held hands and did the work that many could never dream of and others might recoil in horror at the thought. L. David Alinsky, the devil's master

L. David Alinsky, the devil's master

''Obama approached Northwestern University professor John L. McKnight – a loyal student of Alinsky's radical tactics – to pen a letter of recommendation for him when he applied to Harvard Law School. Under the tutelage of McKnight and other hardcore students of Alinsky, Obama said he got the "best education I ever had, better than anything I got at Harvard Law School."

Just five days after affirming on air that he is a liberal, MSNBC host Chris Matthews exclaimed that radical community organizer Saul Alinsky is one of his heroes.
Stated Matthews: "Well, to reach back to one of our heroes from the past, from the '60s, Saul Alinsky once said that even though both sides have flaws in their arguments and you can always find something nuanced about your own side you don't like and it's never perfect, you have to act in the end like there's simple black and white clarity between your side and the other side or you don't get anything done.
"I always try to remind myself of Saul Alinsky when I get confused," Matthews said on his "Hardball" show, speaking to guest Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, on the topic of President Obama's health care plan.

Was America founded with seeds of the occult?

Was America founded with seeds of the occult?

''In the end (get it?), "Apollyon Rising 2012" reads like a novel, but presents as fast-approaching reality. You can judge for yourself whether Horn's assertions are valid. But he makes it hard for the reader to scoff.''

Henry Morris, the founder of the Institute for Creation Research, once made a startling and insightful statement about the Book of Revelation: "It's really not that the book is hard to understand. The problem for most people is that it's hard to believe."
There's a lot of wisdom in that. Often, skeptics will harp on the "difficult" aspects of the Bible, as if that negates them as reality. Of course, there are many fantastic passages of Scripture in the Bible, but their sensationalistic aspects shouldn't disqualify them from being true.
Nowhere do we find this more applicable than in the apocalyptic visions and declarations from the prophets. Many of the predictions about the last days are so epic, the human mind attempts to dismiss them or worse, change them.
So it is with the assertions made in a chilling new book by Tom Horn,
"Apollyon Rising 2012". The book traces occult forces that have shaped and are shaping governments. Many skeptics can stick their heads in the sand, but Horn presents the research. Wishing his claims away won't make them go away; they might be hard to believe, but they're not hard to understand.
The book also addresses an often-discussed topic: was America founded as a Christian nation?
Interestingly, Horn's book says yes … and no. If you mean by the Puritan arrival and early development of the land, then yes, the new world was Christian. There is at least compelling evidence, however, that later, during the Revolution, the fledgling country had at least influence from darker, even occult influences.

From July 2009: Birthers vs the anti-Birthers

Birthers vs the anti-Birthers

''I don't care about anyone's citizenship. Is he human? Was he elected? End of story. I would not care if they want to make it possible for Arnold to run either. Big deal.''

The only thing weirder than the Birthers are the anti-Birthers, who blame the Birthers for being conspiracy theorists yet actively feed the conspiracy by refusing to call for President Obama to release his birth certificate.
The state official in Hawaii who manages such things has
reiterated that there is indeed an original birth certificate on file which would confirm President Obama's having been born in Hawaii and that she has seen it, but state law won't allow her to release it unless the president authorizes it.
So what's the problem here? Release the original and let's be done with this madness.
I realize there are some faith-based Obama supporters who believe without seeing, but the rest of us in the reality-based world are starting to get that strange feeling we got when Mark Sanford tried to convince us that he was away from his family on Father's Day, hiking the Appalachian trail in order to clear his head and write a book.
During the last campaign, John McCain faced similar questions and promptly responded by releasing his original birth
certificate. That's how normal people with nothing to hide handle these things.
Most American's aren't Birthers or anti-Birthers, but we are beginning to wonder why the president doesn't put this one to rest once and for all. Every day he allows this circus to continue is another day that he behaves less like the President of the United States facing weird accusations from fringe groups and more like a strange politician flying to Argentina to visit his soul-mate while pretending to be hiking the Appalachians.

President Obama's Marxist majority

President Obama's Marxist majority

''This is the choice: America as a land of individual freedom, free markets and unlimited opportunity for personal achievement, or America is the land where individuals are forced to buy what government dictates and surrender their prosperity to the government in taxes to subsidize the failure of others.'' A reporter asked Majority Leader Harry Reid how he could justify exempting Nebraska from Medicaid payments forever, in exchange for Sen. Ben Nelson's vote. His reply:
There's a hundred senators here. And I don't know if there's a senator that doesn't have something in this bill that was important to them. And if they don't have something in it important to them, then it doesn't speak well of them. That's what this legislation is all about. (Harry Reid, Dec. 21, 2009, Democratic press conference after cloture vote on health-care bill)
Apparently, Sen. Reid sees the legislative process as an activity through which individual senators vie for taxpayer
dollars to obtain results that are beneficial to them. If individual senators don't get something out of specific legislation, then it "doesn't speak well of them."
As the supreme benefit broker, behind closed doors, Sen. Reid
dished out abundant benefits to selected members of the Senate as a reward for their vote on the health-care bill.
This behavior is nothing short of bribery – with taxpayer
dollars. Reid is not only proud of his skullduggery, but he suggests that senators who do not poke their hands into the public honey pot aren't doing their job.
It's not too late to rescue the nation! Read how in "Save America Now! The New Revolution to Save Freedom and Liberty"
This Marxist majority has made a travesty of our
government: The U.S. Senate should be the world's highest platform of political debate, but Harry Reid has transformed it into a cesspool of political payoffs. Democrats everywhere should be embarrassed. Non-Democrats everywhere should be determined to rid the nation of this corruption. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=120094

From June 2009: How 'Gods' Live and Die

How 'Gods' Live and Die

''If only the world’s star chasers and stargazers would see that there’s real peace and joy in living a quiet life for God. The Bible encourages us to do just that. The view may not be as breathtaking, but we’re a lot less likely to lose our minds in the madness or die from the fall''

I live in an area of the country where a number of celebrities reside. Seeing them in stores, restaurants, churches and in the car next to you is as common here as running into friends or family in a small town. In fact, many celebrities from other parts of the country have moved here to “Music City” and surrounding areas, in part, because we don’t really have paparazzi – at least not yet – and people generally leave them alone.
This allows them to exercise their godhood elsewhere, take their profits and praise from starry-eyed ticket buyers out on the road and return home to a semi state of normalcy – something that is undoubtedly necessary for both sanity and survival.
The sudden and tragic death of Michael Jackson, like many other superstars before him, underscores that need. Unfortunately, like drugs and alcohol, those who become addicted to fame are all too often destroyed by it. And strangely, celebrities themselves, and those around them, can often see it coming, but do little to stop it.
In Michael Jackson’s case, his ex-wife, Lisa Marie Presley, reportedly recalled him saying to her years ago that he expected to meet the same end as her father, Elvis – and that it was Michael’s self-destructive behavior that eventually compelled her to leave him.

The war front is at home

The war front is at home

''With imminent passage of multi-trillion-dollar health-care "reform" that is pure socialism, we relinquish our personal autonomy and freedom to a point where the task to redeem them will be unprecedented. Family and traditional values of personal behavior – once the moral glue holding us together – are now mere lifestyle options.''

Christmas 2009 – our nation is still at war.
Afghanistan? Iraq?
Yes, of course, brave young Americans are in those far off lands defending our country. God bless them.
But the war's front is here at home – the war we are having with ourselves.
After the horrendous attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, a few Christian pastors stepped up to say that the unprecedented violation of America's homeland was a sign of weakness within our nation.
They weren't talking about how we gather intelligence or how we check travelers at the airport.
The management best-seller from the 1960s, "The Peter Principle," points out that one sign of an organization or an individual at their "level of incompetence" is thinking that re-organizing alone solves problems. Drawing new organization charts or moving around furniture is a lot easier than getting to the heart of understanding what is causing failure.
The weakness that led to our vulnerability on that infamous September day, said those pastors, was moral, not technical. For this, they were widely denounced.
President Bush rallied the nation and talked about good and evil. But the evil he talked about was overseas. We deployed our troops and tried to understand what was wrong with "them" and how we could fix it. But little soul searching or introspection was done at home. What might be wrong with us?
As we talked about advancing freedom in other societies, we bloated our own government and violated and abused the principles of freedom – private property and personal responsibility – on which our own society was founded and built.
As we advanced into the first decade of the 21st century, we chalked up military victories abroad and collapsed at home.
We may speak with thanks and a sense of accomplishment that there has been no repeat of 9/11. But we might also wonder why those who seek our destruction need to bother when we do their work for them ourselves.

From May 2009: Actually see what illegal immigration does to America

Actually see what illegal immigration does to America

(After the next major terrorist attack against America, on American soil, this is the biggest story of 2010 - MD)
Without a doubt, illegal immigration is one of this country's most serious problems. The toll exacted by illegals is incalculable. Think of the billions of dollars required to service the tens of millions of illegals already in this country, not to mention the hundreds of thousands that are continuing to sneak across our borders. Think of the cost in terms of human lives. Illegal immigrants murder more Americans every year than have been killed in Iraq since the war began. Think of that. Think of the thousands of Americans who are killed or injured due to illegal aliens who drive drunk. Think of the cost to educate illegals. Think of the cost to incarcerate illegals. If one wonders why the State of California is bankrupt, look no further than the cost inflicted upon the Golden State by illegal aliens.
In spite of the horrific toll inflicted upon the American people by illegal aliens, however, neither the Democratic nor the Republican Party has any desire to do anything about it. Republicans within the Chamber of Commerce want cheap labor, and Democrats want votes. Neither the Elephants nor the Donkeys (at the national level) want to protect our borders. In this regard, it matters not whether it is a Democrat or a Republican in the White House.
If readers want a resource where much information and documentation regarding illegal immigration and its impact upon the United States is provided, please visit this web page:
Furthermore, it has come to my attention that a group of young, independent filmmakers has put together an extremely relevant series of videos that chronicle the truth of illegal immigration. These videos are outstanding!...

The title of the video series is "The Promise of Home." Here are the chapter titles, summaries, and url locations of these fantastic videos:
Immigration 101: The Greener Grass--Mass Migration In the Global Economy
Immigration 102: The Wounded Land--The Environment and Open Space
Immigration 103: American Trauma--Jobs and The Economy
Immigration 104: The Tower of Babel--Assimilation or Separatism
Immigration 105: Re-Educating America--One People or Multiculturalism
Immigration 106: The Emergency Room--Immigration and The Welfare State
Immigration 107: Crime Wave at the Shore--Drugs, Gangs, and Sanctuary
Immigration 108: The Broken Door--Threats To Our National Security
Immigration 109: The Enablers and The Profiteers--Cheap Labor and Ethnocentric Interests
Immigration 110: By the People and For The People--Grassroots America
Immigration 111: Racists, Xenophobes and Bigots
As one can easily see, there are eleven hard-hitting videos dealing with virtually every important area that is impacted by illegal immigration.
We SAY: Readers should also know that we have absolutely no financial interest in these videos. In fact, I have no personal or financial connection to the videos whatsoever. Our only interest is that the information contained in these videos is information that every American citizen needs to know.

The waging battle between truth and lies

The waging battle between truth and lies

''In these days we celebrate in Christian America the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God, our savior. Europeans who followed Jesus made God's commandments the basis of our Constitution. It led to a rich society and the most powerful nation in the world. However, a considerable part of the citizenry has forgotten its roots. Our policies are the damnable manipulation of other people for their own advantage. May God have mercy on this nation. May America find a national rebirth in Jesus Christ. That is the only way out of this mess.''

There is only one way out of the mess we are in: to face the truth of how we got into it and apply the proper medicine. How did the United States, the leader of the free world, get on to the road to a totalitarian system financed by American taxpayers?
Most Americans do not have a clue what a totalitarian system is. Let me tell you from experience: It is a godless society where there is no justice. The totalitarian leaders are always right, while the opposition is always wrong. Rules are based on lies forced upon people by godless and corrupt functionaries. Totalitarian systems grow out of immorality. Immoral people can be manipulated; moral people cannot. Protest, and you will be sanctioned. We will experience the end of freedom and the rule of the lie. Founding Fathers will be presented as greedy capitalists. There will be multi-religious "faiths," which includes watered-down Christianity. We had that in Germany. The "German Christians" promoted National Socialism in religious language.
Are we headed for a Nazi-style totalitarian abyss? Find out in Hilmar von Campe's "Defeating the Totalitarian Lie: A Former Hitler Youth Warns America"
You will be told by our unconfirmed president, Barack Obama, and the godless bunch of politicians what to believe. In the global ideological battle for the role of God in human society, they stand contrary to our founders. They are neither Christians nor patriots but enemies of God and the Constitution. They aim to replace God's commandments by making people believe that they know how to solve every crisis. We are not in a battle between socialism and capitalism. That is only the outside. The real battle is between God and almighty man, between truth and lies.
